Welcome to the Autumn 2014 Scavenger Hunt. You have arrived at Stop #34. The hunt begins at noon (Mountain Time Zone) on October 17, 2014. You may have arrived here before the start which could mean all of the sites aren’t ready quite yet. Once the official start has begun, you should go to Stop #1 (www.robinleehatcher.com) and then work your way through the sites, gathering clues and entering bonus giveaways, until you reach the final stop which will also be on the site of Robin Lee Hatcher.
The hunt ends on Sunday, October 19, 2014 at one minute before midnight (Mountain). That means you have all of the weekend to finish it, so take your time. Enjoy reading the exclusive content the authors have prepared for you. You will collect a CLUE IN RED at each stop. Write them down as you go. At the end of the hunt, you will enter the clues into a Rafflecopter form. (The answer will make sense, even if you aren’t familiar with the quotes.)
The hunt is open to international entries. The grand prize is a Kindle Fire HDX. Two runners-up will receive a new release from each of the participating authors.
IN CASE YOU FIND A BROKEN LINK…
Robin Lee Hatcher has prepared a “cheat sheet” with direct links to each author’s post in case a site goes down or a link gets broken. We hope there will be no such issues, but just in case, please make note of the URL for the Participating Authors & Stops page so you can check back and be able to complete the hunt. http://www.robinleehatcher.com/autumn-2014-scavenger-hunt-participating-authors-stops

Love Without End
Chet and Kimberly have both failed when it comes to love. Will they risk their hearts to love again?
Chet Leonard’s life was forever changed when his seventeen year old son died and then, soon after, his wife walked out on their family. Over two years later, all he wants to do is hold onto his horse ranch and raise his remaining sons to be honorable men.
Kimberly Welch, widowed mother of Tara, a rebellious fifteen-year-old, has reached the end of her finances and nearly the end of her rope. She and Tara come to Kings Meadow to try to piece their lives back together again. Kimberly has no intention of become involved with the residents of this remote mountain community and certainly not with any man.
When 84-year-old Anna McKenna returns to Kings Meadow and to the Leonard ranch, she becomes an agent of change and healing for the two hurting families. With her help, Kimberly and Chet’s families at last discover a love without end.
“Details of the Idaho mountain community’s kindness, and of the development of strong relationships among members of that community, make this a feel-good novel well worth reading.”
~ Publishers Weekly
Putting History into a Contemporary Novel
My favorite subjects in school were English and History. Add to that my romantic nature, and I guess it should have been obvious that I would end up as a writer of historical romances.
But after fifteen years and thirty historical novels, I branched out into contemporary stories as well, both romance and more issues-driven women’s fiction. I have enjoyed the variety and ability to tell stories in new ways. But I still love history. I love learning new things about the past.
When I decided to write a contemporary romance series set in Kings Meadow, Idaho—the setting of my January 2014 women’s fiction release, A Promise Kept—I knew that I wanted to include an historical thread in these novels, too.
There are different storytelling methods available to a novelist to accomplish this.
For the first book in the Kings Meadow Romance series, Love Without End (November 2014), I brought 84-year-old Anna back to the Leonard Ranch where she had lived the majority of her life. Then through dropping back into scenes from the past, I told her story. I also allowed her to play an important part in the developing romance between Chet Leonard and newcomer to the valley, Kimberly Welch. Therefore, the wisdom Anna gained through life experiences in the past is an important part of the present.
For the second book in the series, Whenever You Come Around (May 2015), I employed one of my favorite writing devices—letters exchanged between two characters from the past.
A key thing I have learned, when bringing an historical plot line into a contemporary novel, is that the secondary story must be as important to me, the writer, as the primary story. If it is, it will enrich the main story in unexpected ways.
I hope that readers will love the chance to revisit Kings Meadow and to learn more about Chet, Kimberly, and Anna, both past and present.
